Christmas Portfolio

Beginning in 1990, cars with Holiday themes became an annual part of the Lionel manufacture of S Gauge American Flyer rolling stock. These began with box cars and over the years, a box car has been produced every year except for one. In 1998, the annual car was a festive-colored gondola carrying snow covered pine trees as its load. In recent years, production of the holiday-themed cars has been expanded to include multiple offerings in a single year. While the popular box cars continue, more gondolas and other freight cars have joined the collection, including engines, cabooses, hoppers, operating dump cars, stock cars, a reefer, and a tank car. Some were issued exclusively in a 2009 ready to run set.

The first section of this page contains the box cars. The balance of the holiday cars can be found in the second section.

Our collection currently lacks several pieces, including the 1999 box car and some cars from the 2009 ready to run set. Pictures of those and other missing cars will be uploaded when we are able to acquire them.

Whereas our collection focuses on the cars produced by Lionel for American Flyer, S-Helper has produced holiday cars, though none is as ornamental as those produced by Lionel. Two examples of the S-Helper offerings are included among these pictures.
